Back in May, I learned through one of my Slack channels that Microsoft was offering an interesting challenge: complete a *free* online course within the month and they would waive the fee for the associated exam. Given that the exams are $165 USD, I thought this sounded like an excellent opportunity.
The course I chose to complete was the Data Analyst Challenge, as it looked like it would provide a good overview for the DA-100 Analyzing Data with Microsoft Power BI exam.
Given that I use PowerBI on the daily at work, I found that a good portion of the course was just a review of things I've come across already. However, I don't currently do a lot with the administration side of things, so I'm planning to spend some extra time on those topics during my exam prep. My exam is booked for the end of June, and I'm hoping if I start studying now I should have a good chance of being successful. I thought it might be fun to have a spot to collect my resources and notes, and figured what better place than the blog?
So here's my plan:
Start with the concepts I'm least familiar with, and make sure to leave time to double back to them.
Review the challenge course, and keep notes (which I'll attach here)
Based on feedback from yet another Slack channel, I've purchased this practice test set through Whizlabs.
I've also purchased this newly-released exam guide. Once I've done the first practice test, I'll review any items I had issues with in the guide.
Finally, I'll take the second practice test and hopefully by then I should be in a pretty good spot.
One last note: I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find an audiobook version of a prep guide, because honestly I find that listening while I drive is one of the best ways I absorb information. However, I did find a couple podcasts (links below!) that I found interesting.
