Back in 2021, I wrote a series of blog posts with links I thought would be helpful for those would like to explore a career in Nursing Informatics. Each post focused on a separate area: education, career paths, and communities. As a Canadian myself, I tried to stick to organizations located in Canada wherever possible.
I had the chance this week to have a fun chat with someone who wasn't aware of this area of specialization for nurses, and it occurred to me that it was probably time for an update. There are considerably more programs available now, ranging from Masters Degrees to Diplomas to Certificates. Interestingly, most of the programs are actually Health Informatics programs, but personally I feel these programs are a better fit than Masters of Nursing programs for those looking to get into the digital health space. There remains a single institution with a Masters of Nursing Informatics program, which is actually a 'double degree' program in both Nursing and Health Informatics.
Links to all the programs I could find are below. If you know of any programs that I missed in this list, or if you have experience with any of the programs listed, I would love it if you could let me know in the comments section below. If you would like to learn about my experience with The University of Victoria's Graduate Certificate in Health Terminology and Interoperability Standards, check out this post I wrote a few months ago.
Alternatively, if you are looking to get into NI and would like to chat, let me know in the comments or connect with me on LinkedIn—I'm always happy to connect.
